Dreams

Dreams can help you understand yourself and learn about your journey.

Introduction
Dreaming keeps coming up lately and I would like to address some different types of dreams and where they can come from. This will help you to decipher what it means to you.

Dreams & REM Sleep
REM sleep is the state of where your brain goes when you dream. This is very important for your well being and your mind. Most people need two hours of REM sleep each night, which is important for consolidating memories from that day, your emotional health, and general brain function. When your brain does not go into REM sleep, you can literally destroy brain cells. When you go into REM sleep, your brain waves change to theta brain waves. Theta brain waves (4-8 Hz) are prominent during REM sleep, a stage of sleep characterized by vivid dreams and active brain activity similar to wakefulness. Your brain goes into REM sleep and you do dream every night. You typically will not remember your dreams 100% of the time, but you do go into a dream state every night.

I did a lot of research on sleep, REM, brain waves, and dreaming. The reason being was that I was diagnosed with Sleep Apnea and it was the kind where my brain was not going into REM sleep. I was sleeping 8 hours a night, but I'd wake up and feel absolutely horrible. I was not only fascinated about the science of sleep, but I wanted to cure myself of Sleep Apnea. After 2 years and calculated choices in my life, I cured myself of Sleep Apnea.

Dream Types
Here are some different types of dreams.

  1. Your mind. When you go into REM sleep, your brain needs to calculate what happened during the day. During this process, it can also present you with some interesting dreams. What can also happen is that your mind can bring up a trauma response for a trigger that happened to you. You could also dream about something that is giving you anxiety, like work. There can be good dreams too, like you accomplish something that you have been hoping for. There are so many reasons that your mind can present you with a dream and there are a ton of books on it. If your dream is very outlandish, such as drifting in a river in your car with a unicorn in your passenger seat, then it is most likely your mind creating the dream.

  2. Spirit, the universe, or angels are sending you a message. Sometimes there is a message for you and this is one way that spirit can get it through to you. Pay attention to signs or symbols that you see in dreams. There are a lot of books and knowledge about dreams. It may be hard to tell if this is your mind or the Universe. One key way to tell the difference is if something synchronistic happens after you have that dream.

  3. A spirit being visits you. Sometimes spirits of loved ones can visit us in our dreams. They can come to give you a message or just come by to say hello. My mother came to visit me about 3 months after she passed. It was confirmed by my spirt guides that it was indeed her and in the moment I felt it was her. I was lucid during this dream and tried to communicate with her. When you do get a spirit visiting you in a dream, don't always discount it as your mind putting them there. Sometimes they are really visiting you from the spirit realm and want to tell you something.

  4. A past life memory. You are here as a soul having an experience in a physical body. Your soul has had many other past lives. Your soul (higher self) can sometimes have a dream that recalls a past life memory. This could be something that gets kicked up because of something that happened with someone in your current life that you had a past life with. This could be someone part of your soul family or otherwise.

  5. A vision of the future (Clairvoyance). This can be very common with those who are clairvoyant. Clairvoyants can often see the future in their dreams, but also can get visions during the day. These dreams are typically not very unusual and can be very boring. Think of a normal situation in your real life that is very unlike the crazy and outlandish dreams that your mind may present to you. If it boring, this could be one indication that this is a vision of the future. I have experienced this many times. When I was looking at photos of dogs to adopt in 2023, I spotted a dog that I already met in a couple of dreams months before.

  6. Lucid dreaming, where you control your dreaming experience. There is a technique called Lucid Dreaming, where you can train yourself to go to architect your dreaming experience. This is not something that is hard, but it does take a lot of practice and patience to master. I used to visit to a certain national park in my dream state, which is where I feel at peace. I have enjoyed doing this and I do recommend trying it out if you haven’t done so. I always thought it was fun to go to a vacation spot in my dreams without having to travel there.

Deciphering Your Dream
Dreams are a tricky thing and it can be extremely hard to decipher what type of dream it is, unless of course you are lucid dreaming. I often struggle with it. A good thing to do is to talk to your friends to help you figure it out. What is nice is when you can intuit on dreams with other people who are spiritual or have psychic abilities, which makes it easier to understand what a dream is trying to tell you.

Conclusion
I have always been fascinated with dreaming. It is a wonderful way to get messages from spirit to overall enhance your personal journey. Seeing loved ones who have passed is also such a rewarding experience, even though it can make you miss them even more. I highly encourage you to pick up a book and do research on dreaming to learn about that world. Dreams can cross between psychology and spirituality. This is where the lines can blur a bit, but it still important to take it all in and be open about what dreams can tell you.
