On Writing
Why is writing important on your spiritual journey?
Introduction
I have been writing about my spiritual journey since May 2021. These words are in the form of hand written letters that I send to a good friend. Now this was a necessary part of the process, at least it was for me. It helps you to absorb everything that is happening to you and helps you to piece a puzzle together.
Why Write?
I want to take a moment to discuss how important writing is. Writing with my physical hand is intimate. It is therapeutic. It is necessary to put thoughts together and have some "Ah ha!" moments. You may argue that it is easier to write up something on the computer using a keyboard. Yes, it is easier. But no, I do not recommend it. I am in tech and have been in tech since the year 2000. I do appreciate the art of typing on a keyboard. However, stay with me. When you write with your hand, you really get in touch with your mind and your soul. The two come together so gracefully. This is something that is important in spirituality. Making sure you listen to your mind and your soul. You may have heard spiritual people say not to listen to the mind. I disagree with those thoughts. Writing will help you to absorb what is happening to you on your spiritual journey. In addition to you writing your thoughts down on paper, there is often a guide right next to you that is helping you to have realizations. Check out "Automatic Writing" and this will further explain on how your guides can come in during an automatic writing practice. I believe that the writing is both from your mind and your soul. The two need to work together for you to understand and digest what is going on in your spiritual journey. I suggest writing when the mood strikes you. Your guides will be instigators on when will be the best time to write. Listen to it. Be open. Grab a pen when you are guided to.
External Party Audience
Once you write, then what? Well, I recommend you send your writing to someone whom you trust. Mail it using snail mail. Choose someone who believes in spirituality concepts, who can listen with an open mind, and can semi-understand what you are going through. You don't want to send this writing to a skeptic or atheist. You don't want to send it to someone whom thinks you are crazy. That will be counter productive and will make you feel very small. It is important for me to have someone read my words. Some people believe that a journal is the way to go. I'm not against journaling. However, that never worked for me. I like to write a letter and then talk with the person after they have read and absorbed it.
Ah ha! Moments
I mentioned this earlier, but writing was necessary for me to get those "Ah ha!" moments of clarity. These are important and crucial while you are moving through your spiritual journey. Don't discount them when they come and keep your mind open to every possibility. If you have an "Ah ha!" moment that seems absolutely ridiculous, don't discount it. Clock it and remember it, as it may make a lot more sense at a later time. I have had many of these moments and they continue to happen pretty much with every letter I write.
Closing
I hope that you consider writing your thoughts with pen and paper. It has been hugely beneficial to me through my journey. Even if you are at the very first stages of trying to understand spiritual concepts or if you have been studying for years, it is a good practice to get into. So, when that pen calls to you, pick it up! Trust me. You won't regret it.
